When to choose it

The concrete situations where this machine is the right answer — and the one where we recommend something else from our range.

  • The line's capacity is limited by mixing time rather than by the other machines — this is where you gain most, because the cycle drops to tens of seconds.

  • You produce dry mortars or construction materials and need many batches per hour on the same recipe.

  • The recipe contains components of very different densities which, in a slow mixer, tend to separate — the fluidised central zone mixes the whole mass at once.

  • You need fast emptying between batches: valves along the full length discharge far faster than a single centre valve.

When this is NOT the right machine

For small batches of pharmaceutical or nutraceutical product, where validatable cleaning and the absence of shear matter, two paddle shafts are difficult to clean.

How it works

The twin-shaft mixer is the answer for lines where cycle time decides production capacity: dry mortar plants, premixes, fertilisers and high-volume food products. It produces homogeneous batches in mixing times measured in tens of seconds.

The two parallel shafts, with interleaved paddles rotating in opposite directions, lift material from both halves of the trough towards a central zone, where it passes into a fluidised state — particles move freely relative to one another and mixing takes place throughout the whole mass simultaneously, regardless of differences in density or particle size.

The double-W section trough, the adjustable paddles and the end seals are built in AISI 304/316L stainless or carbon steel, depending on the application. Discharge is through valves along the full length of the trough, for fast and complete emptying, and the two drives are synchronised mechanically or electronically.

Mechanical synchronisation

The two shafts are coupled through a gear train — synchronisation guaranteed mechanically, with no electronics. Simple construction, predictable maintenance.

Electronic synchronisation

Two gearmotors controlled from synchronised inverters. Allows the speeds to be set independently and adapted to different recipes.

With liquid spray nozzles

For recipes where water or liquid binders are added during mixing.

Carbon steel or stainless

Carbon steel covers construction materials; 304/316L stainless is specified for food, pharma and corrosive media.

Does it really mix in tens of seconds?

Yes — the principle differs from slow mixers: the two counter-rotating shafts create a fluidised state in the central zone, where mixing happens throughout the whole mass at once. The exact time per recipe type is in the “Mixing time” row of the specification table.

How much does it raise our hourly capacity compared with a ribbon blender?

The gain comes from cycle time, so it also depends on how quickly the mixer is charged and discharged in your line.

Do the paddles wear quickly with abrasive materials?

The paddles are adjustable and individually replaceable.

What happens if one shaft stops and the other does not?

In the mechanically synchronised version it cannot happen — the shafts are coupled through a gear train. In the electronic version, the control stops both drives when synchronisation is lost.

Can it also run continuously rather than in batches?

The twin-shaft mixer is designed for batches. If you need continuous mixing, with simultaneous feeding and discharge, the right machine is the pug mill.

Can the recipe be weighed directly in the mixer?

Yes, mounted on load cells — particularly useful on lines with multiple recipes, where you want a weighing record for every batch.
